How To Use Astrology For Your Business

For thousands of years, humans have been turning to astrology for its powerful ability to recognize patterns. From tracking the movements of the planets and noting the earthly events that followed to drawing up a birth chart and cracking into our own divine purpose, Astrology has been utilized as a powerful tool for detecting identity.

Even today, Astrology’s power hasn’t been lost on our mega-brands. Exec’s at Coca-Cola have admitted to using astrology as a powerful launch tool for new products. And media mogul Oprah Winfrey has leveraged her own birth chart to build a lasting and iconic personal brand.

As a brand strategist and professional astrologer myself, I can attest that tapping into the cosmos has deeply revolutionized the way my clients operate their businesses.

During an AstroBranding reading they come to me with a marketing plan that's akin to throwing spaghetti at a wall and seeing what sticks. They feel unorganized, unclear and frustrated (at themselves, at algorithms, at free marketing trainings that waste their time don't actually provide value.)

By the end of their reading, they become grounded. Finally, it feels like they have the roadmap towards bringing in clients, standing out online, and creating a deeper community with their people. And most importantly, they're excited about their business again.

As my client Rev. Debbie Philp, an interfaith minister and Shamanic Reiki Master Teacher, said, “[it’s] easier to create social content. My posts feel more authentic, I am less stressed in creating them, and I am getting more engagement with my posts than I was a few months ago.”

The key to this transformation? To stop operating from generality and start utilizing a specific brand identity. And astrology is the perfect tool to start that conversation.

Signs of an unclear brand identity

Before I start getting deep into how to use astrology, let's first explore what a generalized identity looks like. If you find yourself relating to 3 or more of these common scenarios, chances are your business is lacking a brand identity:

  1. You spend a lot of time in a state of inaction because you rely on inspiration for posting.

  2. Every new social media post or email newsletter is started completely from scratch..

  3. You find yourself feeling like you have to post MORE in order to capture your followers attention.

  4. New products and services are always being added to your offer list, it feels hard to sell what you currently have.

  5. Scrolling for inspiration easily turns into a comparison trap and you spend more time looking at other people's content instead of creating your own.

  6. You’re uncertain about what transformation your business provides.

  7. When looking at your business page there isn’t consistency between your content.

  8. You believe that your business can help everyone, so you push away terms like ideal client.

  9. It’s hard to pick one look when you like so many different styles (ie. the pages on your website all have different themes.)

  10. You’re seeing low engagement on your social media posts, it feels like you’re not showing up in people's feeds.

The easiest and most efficient way to solve these problems is by building an unique brand identity. And it all starts by looking at your business chart.

How to find your business astrology chart

In western astrology we plot the planets, celestial objects, and 12 zodiac signs on a wheel-like chart. Luckily, thanks to today’s technology, drawing your unique business astrology chart is as simple as inputting the key info into a chart calculator. My favorite is Astro-charts.com.

The three key pieces of info needed are: a precise date, time, and location. As an entrepreneur, it’s tempting to use your personal birth information, but I highly caution against that unless you’re channeling a personal brand.

Your business has its own unique identity that exists outside of you and it’s imperative that you input the business's creation date and not your own.

I know, the idea of your business having a birthday is kind of weird, and many of you might be in a panic right now trying to remember when that even is. But your business's birth date is any major establishing event.

In the past my clients have used the information from any of the following:

  1. Official business filing (DBA, LLC, non-profit)

  2. Creation of social media account or website

  3. Purchasing of business cards or domain name

  4. First post on social media account

  5. Publishing of business website

The most important thing is to find something with an exact time associated. Luckily in today’s digital world, confirmation emails are great to track down because they contain timestamps. On a desktop computer searching through Facebook posts and profile pictures is the simplest way to find timestamps.

I know when I filed my DBA with my county, the paper was stamped with the time and date of the registration.

If you’re struggling to find an exact time, try to reflect back to the day you established your business… Did you create the Facebook page after work? Did you file first thing in the morning? Was the first post created while you were waiting to pick up your kids from school?

Knowing the time of day can give you a starting place, and working with a professional astrologer can help narrow down the time even further.

Placements to Pay Attention To

Looking at an astrology chart for the first time can be super overwhelming. It’s almost like you’re trying to read another language (which you kind of are?).

But before you slam your laptop closed, here are three key placements that every business should start taking advantage of: Ascendant (ASC), midheaven (MC), and mercury.

The ascendant (also known as rising sign) and midheaven are two navigational points on the chart, and they are highly dependent on the time of a chart. So, if you're unsure about your time, just focus on mercury and the sun instead.

Ascendant: This is the overall vibe and vision of your business. Often, the energy behind this sign feels very inline with your intentions for the business. The ascendant is like a home base for you.

Midheaven: The highest, most visible point in the sky and is found in the top half of the chart. This is the energy that comes across clearest to our audience, it’s how they recognize us. Visual branding and marketing should be built around the energy of this sign.

Mercury: The planet responsible for energy transfer. Whether that be with physical products to basic communication, mercury is the connective tissue of a chart. Voice and messaging live here.
